Susan Parnell is an urban geographer at the University of Cape Town. She was a founding member of the African Centre for Cities. Recent books include: A Routledge Handbook of Cities of the South (with Sophie Oldfield) and Africa’s Urban Revolution (with Edgar Pieterse). Susan’s research had not been purely academic, but has involved liaising with local and national government and international donors. She serves on a number of national and international advisory research panels relating to urban reconstruction and was an expert in the Habitat III Policy Unit 3, National Urban Policies.
