Born on March 9 1956 in Douala, Cameroon, Jean Claude MBWENTCHOU, engineer specialized in Civil engineering and holder of a Masters degree in urban development. Since 2005, he was the National Coordinator of the Urban Governance Program (UGP), focal point of UN-Habitat and national team leader of the participatory slum upgrading program (PSUP). During this period, he participated in all international meetings relating to issues of human settlements: UN-Habitat Board of Directors, World Urban Forums, Habitat II summits in 1996 in Istanbul, Turkey and Habitat III at Quito in 2017.
He was the Vice-chair of the African Ministerial Conference on Housing and Urban Development (AMCHUD) from 2012 to 2014, he is a signatory to the Global Alliance for Building and Construction common declaration during COP21. He also took active part in the session of the United Nations General Assembly that adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in September 2015 in New York.
He is Officer and Knight of the National Order of Valor in Cameroon
