This capacity development session on National Urban Policy will be led by The Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies, Erasmus University and UN Habitat along with experts from OECD and Cities Alliance. The objective of this training session is to bring together a diverse group of stakeholders – academics, country level representatives, local government representatives, etc – to develop an enhanced understanding of the institutional and urban dynamics that are required to develop a National Urban Policy, the phases of National Urban Policy, and the tools that are available to develop a National Urban Policy, and benefits that National Urban Policy can bring in that participant’s country context.

Ultimately, the goal will be for each participant to have the skeleton for an “action plan” for NUP in their country – for each phase, what are the challenges that they face in that phase, what actions/key outputs do they need to have to overcome these challenges and then what stakeholders and resources to they need to engage to complete these actions?
